RE
Beechview Academy is a school privileged to have children from many different religious backgrounds and this is our foundation for our RE curriculum; empowering diversity and establishing tolerance.
At Beechview, we want to inspire all children to become curious about the world they live in and to ask increasingly challenging questions about religion, belief, values and human life. We want children to be intrigued and to gain deeper knowledge and understanding of Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism, Sikhism and Islam by exploring concepts within these religions in depth; an exploration of the influence that religions and beliefs have on individuals, cultures, behaviour and life. Although our in depth RE studies are based on the aforementioned religions, our curriculum enables an exploration beyond those three and there are opportunities for all of the main religions to be discussed through assemblies, awareness of religious events, class discussions and the setting of some of our texts.
At Beechview, we want all children to recognise, consider, understand and question the beliefs, teachings, practices and ways of life central to religion and to make connections between the different aspects of religions and religious expression. We aim to challenge all pupils to recognise the importance of mutual understanding and tolerance, whilst learning about the similarities and differences within - as well as between - religions.
Throughout the RE curriculum we aim to distinguish between ideas of right and wrong, and value and develop an ability to reflect on experiences and establish a further understanding of identity allowing pupils to reflect more deeply on their own and others’ sense of identity. We hope to provide all children with the skills needed to succeed in expressing their own ideas in response to the material they engage with; identifying relevant information, selecting examples and giving reasons to support their ideas and views, using subject specific vocabulary.
